LEVEL: Advanced Committee
The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. We are not a bank in the ordinary sense but a unique partnership to reduce poverty and support development.
In the World Bank Board of Directors we will not be debating topics, but rather drafting and deciding upon specific development proposals. Delegates will act as the Board’s twenty-five Directors. Each will write a costed proposal before the conference in resolution format, with the freedom to suggest projects anywhere in the world. After everybody makes an initial pitch, the Directors will have to work through the proposals in an order of their choosing. A Director can only ask for a vote on their proposal once, which will be done through the Bank’s quota voting system. Overall the Board has a budget of 30,000,000,000 USD, so the total spending it approves cannot be beyond this level. Interwoven in discussions of each proposal will be debates of conditionality, trade liberation, development effectiveness and governance. We hope the simulation will allow for meaningful policy debates alongside political considerations.
